We all know Celio's RedFly Mobile Companion, that expensive interesting terminal to hook up to your Windows Mobile smartphone or pda. But there is a big part of users that are not on the road all day, and for those desk-sitters Celio has created a nice alternative: the RedFly Mobile Viewer software. It controls your Windows phone from your desktop or notebook computer.
There are of course already solutions to connect your mobile phone or pda to your pc, but the RedFly software has of course one big advantage: it uses customised drivers for every different device it supports.
The RedFly Mobile Viewer runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista, and gives your smartphone a larger screen: 800x480, 800x600, 1024x600 or 1024x768, depending on your phone's available memory. There are soft buttons for Home, Web, Mail, Send, End and Start. Additionally, you can use your full size PC keyboard and mouse or touchpad to control your smartphone just like a pc, making it a great terminal to send SMS text messages or to use as a dedicated contact manager.
Devices running on Windows Mobile Standard & Professional (WM5, WM6 and WM6.1) are supported. Check on http://www.celiocorp.com/smartphone for a list of compatible devices. Luckily for us, the Palm Treo Pro GSM, Sprint Treo Pro and Alltel Treo Pro are already supported.
The software is currently a free download while it is in beta. There's no indication yet of a price setting afterwards. Here's what you need for the Treo Pro:
