Winterface and battery drain

Here's a small update to the battery drainage I experienced on the Treo Pro with earlier versions of Winterface. Battery drainage caused by Bluetooth Status button - Vito Winterface - Treo Pro

Under certain conditions, I've noticed the same high power consumption with the latest version (1.2) too. After a bit of trial-and-error I've found that the Bluetooth Status button is the cause of this.

I'm sure it will be fully fixed in an upcoming release or patch, but for now removing the Bluetooth Status button from the Winterface screen solves the problem.

Batti, free battery indicator for Windows Mobile

Batti 2.4 is a full featured battery indicator for Windows Mobile. As many similar apps, it displays a colored bar at the top of your display.

What sets it apart is that you can configure it to stay on top of full-screen applications. Also, it's high-dpi aware, so it will work with your Treo Pro and VGA devices. It is highly configurable, and a free download:

Measuring battery consumption on the Treo Pro

There are a few tools to measure how much power drainage there really is on your Windows Mobile device. One of them is a today screen plugin called HomeScreen++ (previously known as  BatteryStatus). Although this is a very handy plugin to measure actual power consumption, the disadvantage is that it contains a lot of other functions we don't necessarily need. Also, it is active all the time, you can't pause it except by disabling the whole plugin.

Here's an alternative program that might just do what we want: acbTaskMan by acbPocketSoft is a nifty free program that not only shows batteryconsumption and cpu usage, it actually makes a nice graph of it. There is a paid version too with extra functions.

Here's a list of features taken from their website: More...

How to Hard Reset a Palm Treo Pro (Update!)

Contrary to other articles based on earlier Palm devices, you do not hold the power button to hard reset the Palm Treo Pro.

1) Remove the battery

2) Hold down the red End key

3) Insert the battery

Update: here's a much easier method for hard resetting the Treo Pro. Just soft reset it with the stylus or by software, and when the screen is out and just before you feel the battery vibe, hold the red End key until you see the screen below. You do not have to remove the battery.

You'll see a screen like this (if you get the Palm progress bar you've done it wrong):

Press the UP-key on the d-pad to erase all data and restore factory settings.
